Instructions:

  1. Select the right size plants - generally, plants should be less than 1.5" wide. If it's larger than 1.5" and it's not a flexible grass/leaf type plant you may end up bumping it with your glass or the coasters may not stack well.
  2. Prepare your coaster - Rinse the coaster with water - this removes any of the chemicals during manufacturing and helps with water flow. Next, wrap the coaster part with aluminum foil to help keep soil out when transplanting.
  3. Tools to help: mini spoon, chopstick. This will help scoop soil into the pot and pack it down.
  4. Prepare your plants - trim away any dead leaves, rinse or remove dirt from leaves.
  5. Gently remove plant from nursery pot. Squeeze the pot to loosen the roots and soil.
  6. Add a little soil to the bottom of the coaster's pot. Use this soil base to adjust how high your plant sits in the coaster's pot.
  7. Remove extra dirt from around the plants roots, make sure the roots can fit inside the coaster's pot. There is no need to rinse the roots, keeping a little soil around the roots is beneficial.
  8. Place plant in coaster pot and fill in with soil, compress soil slightly use the spoon and/or chopstick.
  9. After plant is securely planted, blow or brush away any stray soil.
  10. Remove aluminum foil and blow away any stray soil.
  11. Give your plant a drink while enjoying a drink of your own. Or pour a teaspoon of water into the coaster so that the soil is saturated.

TIP: if you are propagating a succulent, make sure the stem has had 1-2 days to callus over. If you plant it right after cutting, there is a chance that it will rot instead of growing roots. Read more about propagating succulents.
